UV Water Purification vs. Reverse Osmosis
UV Water Purification vs. Reverse Osmosis

What is UV Water Purification?
An ultraviolet purifier does not physically remove germs or other microorganisms from the water. They instead kill germs and other microorganisms using a powerful UV light. Unlike reverse osmosis, a UV filter will not remove chemicals, dissolved solids, or metals from the water.
Benefits of UV Water Purification?
UV purifiers are an affordable water purification option and are also easy and cheap to maintain. This type of water treatment is also chemical-free, meaning the taste of the water will not be affected.
What is Reverse Osmosis?
Reverse osmosis, also known as hyperfiltration, is a water filter that utilizes extreme water pressure to push the water molecules through a semi-permeable membrane that works to separate out any additives or contaminants.
This fine membrane is capable of removing particles as small as ions and even dissolved organic molecules. Unlike UV filtration, reverse osmosis relies on how much water pressure is pushed against the membrane to determine what will be removed from the source water.
What are the Benefits of Reverse Osmosis?
With reverse osmosis, you are able to purify your water and keep it free from toxins such as mercury, lead, fluoride, chlorine, and arsenic.
Are There Any Drawbacks to UV Filtration or Reverse Osmosis?
Both types of water treatment have their own drawbacks. For reverse osmosis, you have a bacterial bypass and the potential for contamination or growth of bacteria in the storage tank utilized by this process. This method also has a slow production rate and can remove beneficial minerals from the water.
With UV filtration, the system will only remove viruses, bacteria, and other microorganisms, but it cannot remove chemicals, metals, or dissolved solids.
Should I Choose UV Filtration or Reverse Osmosis?
For purification, revere osmosis performs the best in almost all aspects. They are also easy to maintain and are great for large families. UV filtration is a great system for those on a budget, and they are able to kill all harmful microorganisms in the water while keeping the natural composition of the water.
